all natural skin care productsMost of you are overwhelmed by the “toxic ingredient list” of skin care products making it difficult to weed out the nasty, and some of you are just too darned lazy to figure it all out, so I am going to give you a partial  list of the best natural skin products available for purchase….products that according to the skin deep website have a zero hazard rating, in other words products that have an extremely low toxic danger.

For those of you who have not been following this blog, Skin Deep is a site dedicated to keeping the cosmetic consumer safe and more importantly to bring awareness to cosmetic consumers not only regarding unsafe, toxic cosmetics or all natural skin care and non-toxic products,  but also encouraging companies to get on the band wagon and sign the Compact For Safe Cosmetics.

The more that people begin to show concern and purchase all natural skin products, the more these big companies will work at altering their ingredients.

“Our aim was to fill in where companies and the government leave off: companies are allowed to use almost any ingredient they wish, and our government doesn’t require companies to test products for safety before they’re sold. EWG’s scientists built Skin Deep to be a one-of-a-kind resource, integrating our in-house collection of personal care product ingredient listings with more than 50 toxicity and regulatory databases.

You may be shocked when you enter your favorite cosmetics products into the database only to find out that they have a high hazard score, and may be causing more damage to your skin long term. A better use of the site however, would be to enter a category such as skin cream or eye cream and only purchase the products listed with a zero hazard score. The zero’s are listed first by default and you will be surprised at how many natural skin products there are! Of course you have never heard of them.

Some of these products can be purchased at your local pharmacy however most may have to be purchased at a health food store, vitamin store or online. I have purchased and continue to purchase my very favorite products online.

flickrWe have all heard of and should be using omega 3 found in flax and fish, omega 6 found in primrose, and even omega 9 found in olives, but what in the world is omega 7? Could this be another natural skin treatment produced by mother nature?

One legend has it that back in ancient Greece, Greeks were amazed that deserted and wounded horses emerged from a jungle abundunt in a natural source of omega 7 oil known as Sea Buckthorn with shiny, radiant hair and even stronger than before. The Latin name for this source of Omega 7, Hippophae, meaning “Shiny Horse” came from this legend.

So, what are the benefits of Omega 7 or Sea buckthorn?

Omega 7’s have been used for centuries to promote skin health. Sea Buckthorn oil is used to promote the healing of skin concerns such as burns, sores, wounds, eczema and also improves conditions of mucous membranes, including ulcers, lesions, erosions.

Sea Buckthorn oil is used to combat wrinkles, dryness and other symptoms of malnourished or prematurely aging skin. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbiological activity, relieves pain and promotes tissue regeneration.

The benefit of Sea Buckthorn also extends to the mucus membranes that line the stomach/GI tract, upper respiratory tract and vagina and is taken as a natural dietary supplement. These benefits combined with the external skin benefits have made it a staple of herbal remedies.

Yet another example of nature’s way of healing. Another natural skin treatment. Remind me again why we continue to use dangerous topical medicines to treat acne and rosacea?
