Alchemilla: Ultra-Pure Organic Skin Care

Archives

Do you have dry or sensitive skin, or is your skin prone to breaking out? The culprit may be a chemical buildup from your current skin care products. The best answer may be to replace your existing cleansers with natural skin care products.

The best natural sensitive cleanser ingredients are glycerin, olive oil, or sorbitol based.

Personally, I have learned that stripping the skin of all its natural oils in an effort to “cleanse” the skin is actually a misconception that contributes to many skin problems. In order to retain skin’s natural pH balance and moisture, there is only one way to wash. Even expensive department store brands are not necessarily good for your skin; so the best washes to use are those that contain sensitive skin ingredients such as olive oil, sorbitol, or glycerin. New Role Of Vitamin C In Skin Protection; Relevance To The Cosmetics Industry

ScienceDaily (Sep. 9, 2009) — Researchers at the University of Leicester and Institute for Molecular and Cellular Biology in Portugal studied new protective properties of vitamin C in cells from the human skin, which could lead to better skin regeneration.

The work, by Tiago Duarte, Marcus S. Cooke and G. Don Jones, found that a form of Vitamin C helped to promote wound healing and also helped protect the DNA damage of skin cells. Their findings have been published in the journal Free Radical Biology and Medicine.

This report is the latest in a long line of publications from these researchers, at the University of Leicester, concerning vitamin C. Previously, the group has published evidence that DNA repair is upregulated in people consuming vitamin C supplements. The researchers have now provided some mechanistic evidence for this, in cell culture, using techniques such as Affymetrix microarray, for looking at gene expression, and the ‘Comet’ assay to study DNA damage and repair. The Honest Food GuideI read a post on a forum recently from a woman who is at her wits end with her skin issues and acne. My response was of course, you must change your diet, which she then responded “I have eliminated junk food and sugary foods and I still can’t seem to get my skin under control. I still break out like crazy”.

Eliminating junk foods and sugary foods is only the first step in getting your skin to behave. Thousands upon thousands of people are missing this. You must also add specific foods to your diet. Foods that are proven to stabilize your moods, help you sleep soundly, increase your energy and promote clear, smooth skin. These foods are a big peice of the “healthy” puzzle. flickr.com/photos/swanksalot/76461959/sizes/m/The word is still not out regarding anti aging supplements or supplements for skin however, I for one am a big advocate mostly because of how they make me feel.

If I sleep well, maintain my weight, and have more energy to exercise, then obviously my entire body including my skin will reap the benefits.

Treating my skin from the inside along with using only natural skin products on the outside, ensures that I am not accelerating the process of my already aging skin. Since beginning my journey with supplements, I have taken 10 years off my looks, stopped the progression of gum disease, sleep like a baby, and no longer take naps in the afternoon. That’s enough for me. At 46, I feel better than I did at 30.

The photo on the left from flickr is titled “healthy or insane?” I say insane, but healthy.

The following are just a few supplements for skin; most will also affect your entire well being. Visit the Vitamin Shoppe. The knowledge you gain may change your life. Everyone is different therefore you must find the supplements for skin that are right for you and of course, you should consult your doctor before adding any of these supplements to your diet. dreamstimefree_1846953With the increased interest in all natural skin products over the last several years, natural skin care oils have become quite popular. 100% natural, a skin care oil can bring back vibrant, glowing skin in a short period of time. High in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, these oils are believed to help all sorts of skin conditions including dry skin, acne, psoriasis, eczema, and wrinkles. All of the following oils absorb quickly however only a few drops are necessary.

What are the best natural skin care oils?

Coconut Oil

A great way to rejuvinate skin is to use virgin coconut oil as a skin lotion. This natural skin care oil helps prevent liver spots and other skin problems caused by aging by protecting your skin against damaging free radicals. According to research, it prevents sagging, wrinkles, and may help to repair skin and give your skin a youthful appearance. You can find more information in the book “The Coconut Miracle” by Bruce Fife.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba Oil moisturizes dry skin, minimizes wrinkles, gives your skin a soft glow, and many claim it heals acne. You can use it to remove makeup and add it to your hair products for more managable hair. Look for 100% Jojoba Oil as most skin care products that claim it as an ingredient have a very low concentration..not enough to make a difference in your skin.

Sweet Almond Oil

High in Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and Vitamin E, this natural skin care oil nourishes, revives and promotes healthy skin. It can rejuvinate your skin in a very short time and leave your skin satiny smooth.

And my favorite…

Organic Argan Oil

Organic Argan Oil is known to diminish wrinkles and crow’s feet, (it really and truly works), rejuvenates skin and gives it a healthy glow. You can also use it on dry damaged hair, for a healthy shine and condition and moisturize your nails. If you have had annoying skin problems that won’t go away, or your skin has lost its luster, this is the natural skin care oil you must try. Learn More…

Where’d You Get Those Georgeous Lashes?

By now, most everyone has heard of the new eyelash growth treatment available only through a prescription. Allergan claims that their product, Latisse, will grow lashes 25 percent longer, 106 percent thicker and 18 percent darker after 16 weeks of use.

Oh and by the way, there is a name for the condition as they are requiring prescriptions. It’s called hypotrichosis and obviously we all have it. Remember when we all found out we had restless leg syndrome?

Does it really encourage eyelash growth? Does it turn your eyes a different color? Does it darken your eyelids? And are the results permanent? Yes, no, maybe, and no based on what I have read on the website. According to one user, after about 8 weeks, you will notice that your longest lashes will begin the shedding process and new lashes have begun growing underneath. Ok, makes sense. There must be a cut off point for how many lashes can grow on your eyelid!

And according to the Latisse website, eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months after discontinued use. So, to keep these luscious eyelashes, you must continue using the product and at a $130 average price point along with the prescription this seems to be an expensive proposition. Consumer Reports has a great video Longer Lashes but At Real Risk about Latisse side effects and costs.

Latisse is not the only eyelash growth product on the market however. Read the rest of this entry…
