The appearance of wrinkles is an indication that your skin no longer produces sufficient amounts of natural oils. Dead skin cells, naturally sloughed off to make way for a new skin layer, should be removed from your skin on a weekly basis. This is easily accomplished with some at home recipes.
For wrinkle-age skin, look for exfoliants with natural plant based ingredients. Ones with pineapple extracts are an excellent choice, strong enough to do the job, but not so strong as to leave your face in an abraded, tight condition of redness which AHA’s can cause. A good exfoliant leaves your skin looking smoother and clearer, diminishing the appearance of wrinkles and enlarged pores. The exfoliant also acts as a toner, tightening your skin without making it hurt! Read the rest of this entry…

Age spots, or sun spots, are small dark marks that appear after years of sun exposure, in addition to free radical damage occurring inside your body. My first age spot appeared this past winter at age 46. It is located on my left lower cheek. I only found out it was there after my husband, several times, tried to wipe it off my face. Hell!
Age spots, sun spots, liver spots or brown spots also known as hyperpigmentation is a very common condition in which patches of skin become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. Darkening of the skin is caused when excess melanin forms deposits on the skin. Unfortunately as we age, from the age of 40 onward, the skin is less able to regenerate from sun exposure, and these spots become more and more visible particularly in those who spend time in the sun.
So what can we do about these pesky age spots? Read the rest of this entry…

Bare Minerals, one of the more popular brands of mineral makeup sold through infomercials since 1998 has had its share of complaints. From burning, itching and breakouts, to deep red and purple welts, it’s all been reported immediately after use. What causes these skin irritations? It’s hard to say. What women must remember is that……

b) Bare Minerals contains bismuth oxychloride which is an inorganic pigment used in traditional cosmetics as well as mineral makeup and not so natural.
Bismuth oxychloride is a byproduct of lead and copper processing and is considered a skin irritant. As I mentioned above, many people report itching, rashes or cystic acne which may be attributed to this one ingredient alone. Bismuth oxychloride should be avoided if you have acne, rosacea or sensitive skin. And remember it is not limited to mineral makeup products; it is used in thousands of skin care products women have been using for years. It’s only one ingredient among several that cause skin problems for a small minority of women. Read the rest of this entry…

We see people every day who are in their forties who could easily pass for someone in their twenties and we all want to be that person. How to look younger…..are you really and truly trying?
Many people will argue that some people have the “good skin gene” just as my sister claims to have the “fat gene.” Fortunately, most studies show that genetics play a smaller role in aging than originally thought. Good news for us as we now know that we can definitely take control over our appearance and slow the aging process. Most times looking younger is about changing your lifestyle and that may require a bit of self control. Read the rest of this entry…

Just about every cosmetic company is jumping on the mineral makeup bandwagon and for good reason. The best mineral makeup leaves skin with a soft, natural feel and long lasting glow. It lessens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It helps to conceal blemishes, scars, sun damage, acne, rosacea and skin discoloration. And it is all natural.
Unfortunately, you won’t find the best mineral makeup at your local Walmart or drugstore. Large companies are designed for profit and tend to pad their products with unnatural and inexpensive fillers. Of course, they need this extra dough to pay for expensive advertising and expensive packaging….who can blame them? Read the rest of this entry…
